The Legend of Kodiak Jack's

The restaurant was named after the owner, Lee Engelman's great great grandfather Jacque Creapeau.  Jacque was a French Canadian trapper in coastal British Columbia during the early 1800s.  Story has it, his traps were raided on a daily basis by a huge bear. Finally, after several months, Jacque came face to face with the giant 10-foot tall brown bear. With his flintlock rifle, Jacque shot and killed the bear.  The bear weighed almost 1000 pounds, the likes that had never been seen in that area before.  Locals started calling him Kodiak Jacque after the great Kodiak bear.  A few years later Jacque was killed in a bar fight in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.
